African football’s attention shifts to the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday night as Zamalek SC host USM Alger in the decisive second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final.

The Algerian side head into the clash with a slender 1-0 advantage after edging the first leg in Algiers through Ahmed Khaldi’s dramatic stoppage-time penalty, setting up a tense finale in Cairo.

With both continental glory and a record-breaking USD 4 million prize fund at stake, the showdown carries enormous significance for two of Africa’s traditional powerhouses.

Zamalek will rely on home support as they attempt to overturn the deficit and claim a third Confederation Cup crown following their previous triumphs in 2019 and 2024.

For USM Alger, the mission is to complete the job away from home and capture a second title after their breakthrough success in 2023. The Algerians will also draw confidence from their disciplined first-leg display and impressive recent record against Egyptian clubs.

The encounter is expected to deliver another fiercely contested battle as both teams chase continental history in one of Africa’s biggest club occasions.

The final will be overseen by Gabonese referee Pierre Atcho and will kick off at 10pm EAT.
