Aston Villa ended their 44-year wait for European silverware with a commanding 3-0 victory over Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League final in Istanbul.
Managed by Europa League specialist Unai Emery, Villa delivered a dominant performance at the Besiktas Stadium to secure the club’s first major European trophy since lifting the European Cup in 1982.

The triumph also marked Emery’s fifth Europa League title as a manager, further cementing his reputation in the competition.
After a cagey opening spell, Villa struck twice in quick succession before halftime. Midfielder Youri Tielemans opened the scoring in spectacular fashion, volleying home from a Morgan Rogers delivery following a short corner routine. Moments later, Emi Buendía doubled the advantage with a superb curling strike from the edge of the area.
Freiburg struggled to recover from the double blow, and Villa continued to dominate proceedings in the second half. Rogers added the third goal in the 58th minute, sliding in Buendia’s low cross at the near post to effectively end the contest.
Villa could have scored more, with Amadou Onana and Buendia both coming close, while captain John McGinn controlled the midfield throughout the match.
The victory caps a remarkable season for Aston Villa, who have also secured a top-five Premier League finish and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
