Were it not for the fingertips of Alisson, the Reds could have been punished for their sloppiness. As the half wore on, Palace turned the screw and pinned Liverpool back in their own half, but the finishing touch was missing.
Liverpool looked to start the second half in finer fettle, and they fired a warning shot at Palace immediately when Mo Salah’s curling effort rang the crossbar. A Cody Gakpo miss from point-blank range in the final 10 minutes summed up the night’s proceedings, as neither team could capitalise in front of goal.
