Mombasa United earned promotion to the 2026/27 FKF Premier League after the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee awarded them a 2-0 victory over Kariobangi Sharks in their abandoned promotion play-off.

The second leg, played at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Tuesday, October 6, was halted in the 64th minute after Sharks players protested a penalty awarded to Mombasa United.

According to the committee, the situation escalated when Sharks kit manager Patrick Paul Otieno and some supporters allegedly entered the pitch and attacked the referee. The official received medical attention and informed the match commissioner that he could not continue, forcing the match to be abandoned.

On Friday, October 9, the committee invoked Articles 3.3.2 and 3.3.3 of the Rules and Regulations Governing Kenyan Football (2019) to award Mombasa United the 2-0 victory, confirming their promotion while relegating Sharks to the National Super League.

However, the violence and misconduct allegations have been referred to the FKF Disciplinary Committee for further action.
