For Marjolene Nekesa, winning the golden boot in her first season in the Czech Republic wasn’t something she had envisaged when she joined Slavia Praha in the summer of 2022.

The Kenyan will be among the three Harambee Starlets players who will be participating in the prestigious UEFA Women’s Champions League next season and despite grabbing 14 goals in her debut season, she feels she should have done better.

“First of all, I would like to thank my teammates (for winning the golden boot) because without them I would not have achieved the award. Although I won, I believe that I could have done more. I am not completely satisfied with my performance because there are moments that I could have done better, and there is still room for improvement,” she is quoted by the club’s portal.

The striker picked her favorite goal among the 14 and feels that they deserved the league title more so after winning the derby.

“My favorite goal was against Slovakia in our last game. Haleigh Stackpole gave me a perfect pass and I was in the right position to finish. Winning the title was a great feeling, I didn’t celebrate crazy but I’m happy we won. What I liked the most was our team mentality, we deserved the title because at some point we were in a difficult situation after losing the second derby, we managed to turn it around, so to work on something like that and be rewarded for it is always sweet,” she added.

On life in Prague, Nekesa said: “I’m enjoying Prague so far, I’m not exactly the adventurous type, but I managed to visit a few places, the city center and the castle, which is a place I wouldn’t mind visiting again and again.”

The striker will be hoping for more goals this season starting with their Champions League campaign where they are scheduled to enter the competition in the second round of the qualifiers.
